Painter, draughtsman, illustrator of seascapes and landscapes. Donald Maxwell trained at South Kensington Art School in 1896, and also at the Slade School of Fine Art, and at Clapham Art School. He was a draughtsman for the Admiralty during World War I and accompanied the Prince of Wales on a tour of India. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. From 1910, he produced seascapes and maritime scenes for the review The Graphic, and illustrated editions of poetry by Rudyard Kipling and Hilaire Belloc. He also illustrated numerous books based on his travels, including The Enchanted Road (1905), The Log of the Griffin (1914), Adventures with a Sketch Book and The Prince of Wales' Eastern Book, together with antiquarian and topographical explorations of the counties of south-east England.
