Description
Turner’s watercolour “Flint Castle” of 1838 is considered one of his greatest Welsh landscapes and captures the castle on the Dee Estuary. He drew two watercolours of the ruin following his first visit to the castle in 1792 and returned several times.
The picture we are selling is close to Turner’s watercolour of 1838 although some other details have been taken from a similar watercolour, he completed around 1834. The artist has been creative and in the distance you can see many more ships on the horizon with several gulls in the sky and figures on the beach, not present in either of Turner’s watercolours. Please compare our watercolour with the two by Turner in the photos.
There is a small dark spot in the sky created from a metallic particle in the paper. The picture is in good condition, colourful, and pleasing to view.
